Here we are providing you BSc Zoology Honors Paper-3 and Honors Paper-4 Syllabus for Theory Paper and Practical Paper. These Papers are used to study in 2nd Year of BSc Zoology Honors Subject. Each of which Paper there are 100 Marks Examination will be held. It has both Theory and Practical Papers.

BRABU BSc Zoology (Honors Paper-3) Syllabus

In all ten questions are to be set out of which number 1 and 2 shall consist to objective 1 x 15marks and short answers (3 x 5) requiring question respectively and both shall over the whole syllabus in the paper. Student would be required to answer five questions of which question numbered 1 and 2 shall be compulsory.

Theory Paper

Objective type questions (1×15) with alternative short answer requiring questions (3×5)

(Chordate)

Origin and evolution of chordates.

Bionomics, general characters and classification of the following groups (living) upto orders.

Protochordata, Cyclostomata, Pisces, Amphibia, Reptilia, Aves, and Mammalia.

Study of the following types:

• Urochordata- Herdamania and Salpa
• Cephalochordata- Amphioxux
• Cyclostomata- Petromyzon
• Pisces- (i) Scoliodon and Labeo or any bony fish, (ii) Distribution, general organization and affinities of Dipnoi.
• Amphibia- Neoteny
• Reptilia- (i) Garden Lizard (ii) Feeding and biting mechanism in snakes
• Aves- (i) Columba (ii) Flight adaption in birds (iii) Origin of birds
• Mammals- (i) Characters, distribution and affinities of Prototheria and Metatheria (ii) General organization of primates

Comparative Anatomy

Study of the following organ system in major vertebrate group.

1. Integument- its derivatives and functions
2. Gastrointestinal tract
3. Respiratory system
4. Heart and aortic arches
5. Kidney, urinogenital tract and gonads

Embryology

1. Fertilization
2. Egg types and early cleavages
3. Development of Amphioxus (up to the formation of Coelom)
4. Development of chick (up to three germ layers)
5. Structure, development and function of extra embryonic membranes in chick
6. Placenta in mammals-Development, types and functions
7. Organogenesis of Heart, Brain and Eye in chick embryo

BRABU BSc Zoology Part-2 Practical Paper Syllabus

Dissection: -10 Marks

1. Scoliodon or any bony fish- Afferent and efferent branchial vessels; V, VII, and IX, X cranial nerve; Internal ear
2. Frog cranial nerves- V, VII, IX and X
3. Lizard- Arterial and venous system
4. Pigeon- Arterial and venous system, air sacs, flight muscles (with the origin and insertion of tendons)
5. Mammals- Neck nerve and urino-genital organs

Mounting: 5 Marks

Ampulla of Lorenzini, Scales of fishes, feathers, blood film, Mounting of chick embryo (24 and 48 hours)

Permanent stained preparation of parafilm section provided (5 Marks)

Spotting: (Each two marks) -20 Marks

1. Museum specimen
2. Slides- histology and Embryology
3. Bones-Limb 1, Girdle 1, Skull 1, Vertebra 1

Record and field work -5 Marks

Viva -5 Marks
