BRABU BSc Botany Part-2 General Theory Paper Syllabus

The examiners are to set five questions from each to the groups out if which the candidate will be required to answer five questions attempting at least two questions from each group.

Group-A Plant physiology & biochemistry:

• Physiology of water and mineral absorption.
• Transpiration – Stomatal moement.
• Mineral nutrition of the plants – Role of macro nutrients.
• Enzymes – Nature, mode of action, factors affecting enzyme activity.
• Photosynthesis – Mechanism and factors.
• Respiration – Aerobic and anaerobic (Glycolysis Kreb’s cycle and electron transport).
• Nitrogen metabolism; Nitrate reduction, amino acids, protein- Structure and types, Symbiotic and asymbiotic nitrogen fixation.
• Phytohormones – Auxins and Gibberellin (discovery, structure and roles).
• Growth – Measurement, factors affecting growth, role of light, temperature and humidity.
• Movements – General Account.

Group-B (Microbiology)

• A general account of bacteria, viruses and their economic importance.
• Role of microbes in agriculture and industry.
• Important plant diseases of Bihar
• Etiology, Symptoms and Control of the following.

1. Late blight of potato
2. Rust of Wheat.
3. Red rot of sugarcane
4. Tobacco mosaic virus.

• Experiments in Plant physiology and Biochemistry.

2. Test for carbohydrate, protein, amino acids and starch seed.
3. Compare transpiration, mesophytic and xerophytic leaves.
4. O2 is evo lved during photosynthesis.
5. Compare the rate of imbition of fatty and starch y seeds.
6. Compare the rate of absorption and transpiration.
7. Moll’s experiment.

• Symptoms and morbid anatomy of the diseases prescribed in the course.
• Comment upon the spots covering the courses of Paper-II.
• Class record.

BSc Botany General Practical	Full Marks: 25
