BRABU BSc Botany Part-1 General Syllabus

The examiners are to set five questions from each to the groups out if which the candidate will be required to answer five questions attempting at least two questions from each group.

Group-A (Cryptogams)

Structure, reproduction, diagnostic features and economic importance of algae, fungi and
Lichens based on the types wherever mentioned.

1. Algae: Nostoc, Oedogonium, Chara, Vaucheria, SArgassum and Battrachospermum.
2. Fungi: Albugo, Peziza, Puccinia.
3. Lichens: General account and Economic importance. Structure and life history of the following types.
4. Bryophytes: Marchantia, Anthoceros and Sphagum.
5. Pteridophytes: Lycopodium, Equisetum and Marselia.

Group-B (Phanerogams)

• Gymnosperm Pinus (Morphology, Anatomy & reproduction).
• Taxonomy of Angiosperms:

1. (Classification of angiosperms with reference to the system of Bentham and Hooker and Hutchincon.
2. Elementary idea or international coding of Botanical nomenclature of the following families:

Ranunculaceae, Euphoribaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Apocyanaceae, Acanthaceae, Amaranthaceae, Cyperaceae, Lamiaceae, Poaceae and Orchidaceae

• Anatomy:

1. Meristems and different types of tissue.
2. Initiation and activity of Cambium.
3. Anomalous secondary growth in Eoerhaavia, Tinospora and Dracaena.
4. Root-Stem transition.

• Embryology

1. Development of Microsporogenesis, Megasporogenesis, male and female gametophytes, fertilization, endosperm and embryo.
2. Elementary idea about experimental embryology.

BRABU BSc Botany Part-1 General Practical Syllabus:

Practical Paper

1. Morphology and structural details of Algae, Fungi, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, Gymnosperms include in the syllabus and their temporary/permanent slide preparation. 7.5 Marks
2. Description of Angiospermic plant belonging to the families prescribe in the syllabus. Identification upto the family level. 4 Marks
3. Study of the primary and secondary(both normal and abnormal) structures of root and stem of angiospermic plants. 2.5 Marks
4. To identify and comment upon forms include in group I and II (six spots.) 6 Marks
5. Practical record. 5 Marks
